What is the procedure?

Ear surgery in Ladera Ranch is a custom procedure, as every individual is unique. Most ear surgeries are performed for aesthetic reasons. In cases of protruding ears, the area is numbed with local anesthesia, and then incisions are placed behind the ears. A section of tissue is then removed, and the incisions are closed with sutures. The difference in your overall facial appearance is often subtle, but dramatic.

You will be free to wear your hair back, and never have to worry that your ears are drawing the attention of others. They will nicely frame your face and appear entirely natural. Most ear surgeries take between one to two hours to complete, based on the extent of correction needed and the complexity of the operation.

How much does otoplasty cost?

Factors that affect the overall pricing for otoplasty include the surgeon’s fees, facility fees, anesthesia fees, and postoperative garment fees, among others. Our team will personalize your quote at the time of your private consultation after creating a detailed treatment plan with your specific goals in mind.

When otoplasty is performed for cosmetic purposes, it is not typically covered by insurance. If a medical condition is present, however, the insurance carrier may cover a portion or all of the costs. It is always worth it to check and see. We can help you apply for financing if needed.

Dr. Ali, your ear surgeon

Ear reshaping surgery is a delicate procedure that must be performed with exceptional skill so the result is even, balanced, and the ears set beautifully against the head. Dr. Ali is a fellowship-trained surgeon and Harvard graduate, with a reputation as being among the most accomplished ear surgeons in the Irvine area. His meticulous attention to detail, advanced techniques, and dedication to excellence has led to his reputation as being the most talented ear surgeons in greater Orange County and beyond.

Correcting prominent ears

After surgery for prominent ears, a head wrap must be worn for four to five days to protect your newly-reshaped ears from external trauma during the critical healing period. After the head wrap is removed, you will wear a band to keep your ears protected at night for two weeks. You can resume strenuous physical activity in six weeks. After earlobe repair surgery, patients will not need to wear a head wrap, though they should avoid any contact sports for about six weeks.

FAQ

Can children have ear surgery?

It is important to note that otoplasty can only be performed on a child age five or older, as this is when the ear is approximately 85% of the adult size. If you are interested in learning more about this procedure, please contact South Coast Plastic Surgery to schedule a consultation with Dr. Ali.

What anesthesia is used?

Most otoplasty procedures are performed under “twilight” anesthesia, which is intravenous sedation and local anesthesia. Surgery to repair earlobes can be performed in our office under local anesthesia alone.

What will my recovery from ear surgery entail?

You should feel back to normal after a few hours, although you may feel a dull ache or throb in the ears for a few days. Prescription medication can help alleviate any discomfort during the first few days.
