PRP Therapy And Microneedling While Pregnant: Is It Safe?
PRP therapy and microneedling are popular cosmetic rejuvenation treatments, but they are not recommended for pregnant women due to potential risks such as infection and complications. Women are advised to wait until after pregnancy for such procedures to ensure fetal safety.

WHAT IS PRP (PLATELET-RICH PLASMA)?
Platelet-Rich Plasma therapy – also referred to as PRP – is one of the hottest cosmetic procedures hitting plastic surgery practices and medical spas across the country. This rejuvenation treatment uses the platelets from your own blood to refresh and boost your skin for a younger, tighter appearance.
PRP therapy has been used for the treatment of wrinkles and fine lines, as well as general skin rejuvenation. PRP therapy has even been used for tightening and lifting the chest area, making this a great natural alternative to breast augmentation.
WHAT IS MICRONEEDLING?
Microneedling – another popular treatment – uses small, rapid needle injections to create micro-wounds within the skin, which encourages increased collagen and elastin levels. The end result is a natural approach to skin rejuvenation, making clients look younger and refreshed.
While both of these treatments are safe for most clients, it’s important to note that these procedures should not be knowingly be used on pregnant women for the following reasons:
Any cosmetic procedure comes with the risk for complications, which can include infections. These infections can cause significant risks to fetal health, and can even cause the loss of the baby.
ARE THERE ANY RISKS?
Introducing any substance within a cosmetic procedure comes with an extremely rare possibility for infections and allergies. Should this occur with a woman who’s pregnant, the fetus could be endangered by body stress related to the infection or allergic reaction.
Sepsis – a blood-borne infection – is also a rare event that makes most cosmetic procedures unsafe for pregnant women.
If you’re pregnant and interested in undergoing skin rejuvenation procedures like PRP therapy or microneedling, it’s best to wait until after you’ve had your baby. Post-pregnancy, you can indulge in numerous treatments – including a Mommy Makeover, which combines rejuvenation procedures with breast lifts, tummy tucks, and other cosmetic treatments.
