Our medical-grade chemical peels at South Coast Plastic Surgery deliver world-class results. We have selected what we believe are the most effective formulas available in the USA. You are unique – and so is your skin. The first step in choosing the right chemical peel for you is a full evaluation of your skin condition and an in-depth discussion about what you hope to achieve.

What is a Chemical Peel?

A chemical peel is a non-surgical rejuvenation treatment that renews and rejuvenates the skin, firming and plumping it, and reducing flaws. During a chemical peel, the outer layer of old or damaged skin is removed by applying a chemical layer to the surface of the skin.

This reveals the new layer of skin beneath and triggers the production of collagen, helping the body to build new, healthy skin cells. A chemical peel can be customized to treat the skin at varying depths, from light to deep. The deeper the peel, the greater the skin rejuvenation.

Before & After

How Does a Chemical Peel Work?

Our Ladera Ranch chemical peel works by causing your skin to shed the dull, dry top layer. The formula is gently applied to your skin, allowed to move through the activation process, and then removed. Your skin is then protected with sunscreen. The surface layer of your skin is affected by the peel formula. Within a few days, the peeling begins. The surface layer of your skin peels away, similar to what you may have experienced with sunburned skin. New, refreshed, smoother skin rises to the surface, with dramatic improvement of lines, wrinkles, age spots, and uneven tone and texture.

Who is an Ideal Candidate for a Chemical Peel?

Men or women who would like to achieve more refined skin and reduce skin concerns are likely candidates for a chemical peel. People whose skin tone is darker may not be ideal candidates, as some chemical peels may leave darker skin tones uneven. Chemical peel candidates should meet the following requirements:

  • Are not pregnant or breastfeeding
  • Have not taken isotretinoin (an oral acne medication) in the past six months
  • Have wrinkles or fine lines
  • Would like to reduce skin flaws, such as pigmentation issues, sun damage and other concerns
  • Would like to rejuvenate the skin and achieve a glowing, fresh complexion

What are the Benefits of a Chemical Peel?

A chemical peel can turn back the clock and provide youthful, glowing, supple skin. Sun-damaged skin can be smoothed out and the skin transformed. Chemical peels are always a popular treatment for patients because they provide so many benefits:

  • Treat and reduce acne
  • Deeply exfoliate and refresh skin
  • Minimize pores
  • Reduce fine lines and wrinkles
  • Fades discoloration from age spots, sun spots or pigmentation concerns
  • Lifts and firms skin
  • Reduces scarring
  • Evens skin texture and tone
  • Smooths and softens skin
  • Stimulates collagen production and help produce new cells
  • Leaves the skin smooth, rejuvenated and radiant

What is the Best Chemical Peel?

The best Ladera Ranch chemical peel is the formula that is right for your skin and your lifestyle. We will carefully evaluate the condition of your skin and advise you which peel we believe will be most effective. We will discuss all the issues of concern, such as recovery time, so you plan your peel with plenty of time to achieve the fresh glow before a wedding, important event, or planning around your schedule.

The Perfect Peel

The Perfect Peel is a popular medium-depth peel for all skin types, colors and textures, that improves skin tone and leaves the skin with a natural glow. A Perfect Peel combines a number of acids, including kojic acid, a powerful lightening agent that dramatically boosts collagen production to tighten and rejuvenate the skin. The Perfect Peel combines these acids with a blend of minerals and vitamins, including vitamin C. The results are healthier, brighter and rejuvenated skin, and a more radiant appearance.

The Perfect Derma Peel provides the following benefits:

  • Reduces hyperpigmentation, sun damage, and melasma
  • Improves skin tone and clarity
  • Smoothes uneven skin texture
  • Tightens the skin
  • Provides brighter, more radiant skin with a natural glow
  • Diminishes the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
  • Reduces enlarged pores
  • Boosts collagen and elastin for firmer, smoother and healthier skin
  • Controls acne and reduces acne scars
  • The perfect adjunct for laser treatments, injectables, and post-procedure

Melanage™ Peel

Using two mild acids, retinoid and Arbutin, and a combination of potent non-acidic ingredients, the Melanage™ Peel is an excellent choice of treatment for lackluster skin, textural irregularities, stubborn pigmentation, sunspots and melasma. It treats skin discoloration and speeds cell turnover to leave the skin looking clearer, more youthful and more radiant. The Melanage™ Peel treats the face, while the Melanage Mini is used to produce the same benefits on the neck, decolletage, and chest.

This two-part skin brightening system begins with an in-office application of medical-grade ingredients to be left on for two or more hours after leaving the office. Part two of this treatment is done at home. Melanage Peel offers the following benefits:

  • Improves uneven skin tone
  • Improves skin texture
  • Reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
  • Significantly reduces hyperpigmentation
  • Removes layers of dead skin cells
  • Perfect for post-pregnancy melasma
  • Treats and reduces sunspots
  • Treats discoloration
  • Leaves the skin smooth, glowing and radiant

Patients will be advised on simple aftercare protocol, including the use of sunscreen and avoiding direct sun exposure insofar as possible for 5 to 7 days after part one of the treatment.

Is a Chemical Peel Right for Me?

Our Orange County chemical peel are best for people with fair or lighter skin tones, because a chemical peel can leave the tone of your skin uneven for those with darker skin tones. If you want to get a chemical peel, you should meet the following requirements:

  • You would like to reduce fine lines under the eyes and around the mouth
  • You haven’t taken the oral acne medication isotretinoin in the past six months
  • You are not pregnant
  • You would like to improve the appearance of mild scars, acne or age spots
  • You would like to reduce signs of sun damage

What is the Recovery Time of a Chemical Peel?

You will need about two weeks to recover from a chemical peel. Your skin will begin peeling within a couple of days after your chemical peel. Use gentle skin products to keep your skin moist and hydrated, which helps with the healing process.

Stay out of the sun for at least one week and be sure to wear a good SPF when you do go outside. Your skin will be thinner during recovery, so it can be more easily damaged by UV rays.

Avoid heat on the skin for two weeks, including baths, saunas and hot showers.  Your skin needs to remain cool because sweat can irritate it and overheated skin can result in  inflammation, which can create post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.
