Dermal Fillers 2017-03-30T09:15:16-07:00

Everyone Will Notice. No One Will Know.

At Southcoast Plastic Surgery, we understand that you want natural looking results.  We also know how each individual has unique needs and has a vision for improvement. Following a detailed history and examination, we will provide you with a step by step treatment plan that will fit your time and your budget.  Rather than trying to seek a total correction in one office visit, our patients prefer our “Timeline to Rejuvenation” with a gradual correction that will be subtle at first but with exceptional results over time.

Dermal fillers can be used to:

  • Plump thin lips and provide greater accentuation of the cupid’s bow and lip margins
  • Enhance shallow contours such as in the tear troughs, temples, cheeks
  • Augment cheek volume and provide a lift to the lower face
  • Soften facial creases and wrinkles
  • Improve the appearance of recessed scars
  • Provide a non-surgical rhinoplasty
  • Treat earlobe volume loss and wrinkles
  • Treat the aging hand

What are dermal fillers?

They are used for aesthetic treatments and are injected into the skin. They are designed to effectively reduce the appearance of volume loss, unwanted wrinkles, contour the face, and to rejuvenate the skin. They can be used in conjunction with other aesthetic treatments. Many of the dermal fillers consist of hyaluronic acid (HA), which is a substance that exists naturally in your skin that helps to add volume and hydration. Aging results in a decrease in the HA. By replacing the skin’s supply of HA, these dermal fillers revitalize the skin.

We carry a variety of fillers, each suited for particular problems and areas. These include Juvederm®, Radiesse® and more. Dr. Song will discuss the benefits of each.

What is hyaluronic acid?

Hyaluronic acid is a sugar molecule that exists naturally in almost all living organisms. It is a natural substance found in your body. It binds water and can act as a lubricant and shock absorber in movable parts of the body such as joints. It is also important for the transport of nutrients and in regulating water balance in skin. Hyaluronic acid is not derived from animal sources.

Why should I use dermal fillers?

Wrinkles are a part of the natural aging process but sometimes they make us look older than we actually are. The aging process causes the face and hands to lose underlying fat and collagen, which then causes our skin to sag and results in a hollowed, tired, and aged look. With expert injection techniques, dermal fillers treat facial lines and wrinkles, hollow temples and cheeks and eyes, receding chins, thinning lips, and the frown lines between the eyes.

What are the benefits of dermal filler?

Dermal filler injections are a great non-surgical approach to replace volume and may provide a lift to the face. The result of a single treatment can be seen instantly and you may enjoy the benefits for up to 2 years or more. As your face changes over time, dermal fillers allow you to control your looks subtly as you age.

How safe is hyaluronic acid?

Hyaluronic acid is made from non-animal products and is chemically developed to be similar to  the body’s own HA.  The common side effect could be injection site swelling and bruising which are temporary.  The application of cool packs and the use of Arnica® may decrease these side effects.

Can dermal fillers be used with other treatments?

For a complete facial rejuvenation, we might recommend the use of adjunctive treatments such as Botox, laser, ultrasound, micro-needling, skin care products. Our medical aesthetician will be pleased to meet with you and provide you with an ongoing skin care program.

What can and can’t I do after the treatment?

There are no absolute restriction following the use of dermal fillers.  You may want to hold off on any strenuous exercising the day of treatment if there is any bruising or swelling.  Drinking lots of fluids may assist the filler remain robust as several of the HA fillers attract water.
