It is important to understand that liposuction is not a weight reduction surgery, but a body contouring procedure designed to improve you figure. As such, it is imperative that your surgeon not only possess the technical skill to perform the procedure, but the artistic ability to sculpt your body to match your vision.
WHAT IS LIPOSUCTION?
Liposuction may be used to create a more shapely, defined and proportionate appearance.
This procedure involves making a small incision and inserting a hollow tube that can be manipulated by the surgeon deep within fat pockets. A vacuum-pressure unit then eliminates the unwanted fat.
Though single site liposuction may be performed under “twilight” anesthesia, the procedure is typically administered under general anesthesia. Most procedures are outpatient, but large volume cases (greater than five liters) necessitate hospital admission for overnight observation. A tumescent solution is injected prior to liposuction to minimize discomfort and bleeding.
This cosmetic surgery procedure is ideal for patients who have good skin elasticity and quality and can be used safely in the following areas:
- Bra Roll
WHY WE USE TRADITIONAL LIPOSUCTION
While there are a number of liposuction devices that are heavily marketed as superior instruments for cosmetic improvement, the truth is that the vast majority of board-certified plastic surgeons choose traditional liposuction. Traditional liposuction achieves the same body enhancement as ultrasound and laser-assisted liposuction, but is considerably safer for the patient as it does not cause burns and is much less likely to result in lumpy contour irregularities.
WHO IS A CANDIDATE?
The best candidates for liposuction are physically and psychologically healthy, of normal body weight and has one or more areas of localized body fat deposits out of proportion to the rest of their body. Liposuction is best suited for areas with firm, elastic skin. The procedure is not recommended for anyone who has had recent surgery on the area that will be reshaped, who experiences poor circulation, or who has any major medical problem.
LIPOSUCTION FOR MEN
Liposuction is frequently performed for men to reduce and shape the abdomen, love handle areas and lower back. Male DNA often programs the body to store extra fatty tissue in these areas and very reluctantly allows for improvement with diet and exercise. For these non-obese gentleman suffering from unwanted fatty tissue, liposuction can help create a more defined, more attractive physique.
Following surgery, you will be asked to wear a compression garment for approximately 3 weeks. After this period of time, major swelling and bruising has resolved and approximately 60 to 70% of the result is evident. The final results will be apparent in approximately 3 to 4 months after the swelling has subsided. Results are permanent as long as you maintain your weight, but even with weight gain, you should see an equal distribution and not disproportionate growth back in your problem areas.
