While liposuction is most commonly associated with body contouring techniques intended to sculpt regions such as the abdomen, thighs, arms and buttocks, it can also be highly effective as a facial enhancement procedure.
At South Coast Plastic Surgery, Dr. Song is highly skilled in the technique and artistry that facial liposuction necessitates. To help you achieve the results you desire, our surgeons use Smartlipo, the safest and most effective technique for removing fat from the chin, jowls and neck areas. Not only does this cutting edge technology involve fewer complications and scars, it also allows the surgeon to operate without using general anesthesia. And most importantly, it helps the surgeon create the most beautiful and most natural results.

If you have excess fat under the chin, along the jawline, in your neck, cheeks or jowls, then facial liposuction may help you achieve the healthier, more refined look you desire.
For younger patients with good skin tone and relatively little sagging of facial tissue, facial liposuction alone may achieve your cosmetic goals. For older patients, facial liposuction is often combined with procedures such as brow lift, eyelid surgery or a face lift to create a dramatically enhanced facial appearance. Men and women focused on gaining better definition in their chin or cheeks may also consider facial fat grafting, facial fillers or facial implants to create a more sculpted profile.
After carefully analyzing the problem areas, Dr. Song will make a tiny incision on the periphery of the area being treated. Through these incisions, a tumescent solution containing local anesthetic is injected into the area. Next, a very fine cannula is inserted to disrupt the fat cells and sculpt the area to create the desired contour. A small amount of the disrupted fat will then be suctioned out through fine cannulas. Though only small amounts of disrupted fat cells are removed during this procedure, the result will be dramatic.
The surgery typically takes about an hour. Following the procedure and after the brief recovery period, you will enjoy a more slender, more sculpted facial contour.
For the first several days following the procedure, patients can expect swelling and some moderate bruising in the face and neck area. Most of the swelling and/or bruising will subside within a week. As the swelling dissipates, you will begin to see a more defined neck and jawline. Patients are expected to carefully follow post-surgical instructions, which include wearing surgical dressings and sleeping with the head elevated for several days so that swelling can resolve as quickly as possible. Most patients can expect to return to work and resume normal activities within a week.
